SMSgt (Ret) Henry “Hank” Leston Malone passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on March 17, 2014 with his daughters by his side. Hank spent his life dedicated to the people he loved and the country he served. Hank was born in Leesburg, FL on June 18, 1936, to Kimbell Malone and Effie Florence Smith. He graduated high school in 1954 from Webster Public School in Webster, FL. Hank enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 and retired as a Senior Master Sargent after 21 years of service in 1975. He spent his military career as a Personnel Systems Manager. His many accomplishments at the Base and Air Force Level earned him the title “Father of the Base level/Human Resources Computer System.” After retirement, he earned a Computer Science degree from Texas Lutheran College. Hank continued his service to the Air Force in the Civil Service for the Human Resources Computer Systems which included not only DoD services but also many other federal agencies. His reputation within all agencies was widespread and resulted in many awards. After a combined total of 46 years of service to the United States Air Force, Hank retired in 2000.
In 1960, he met and then married the love of his life, Mary Lou McAuley in Burleson, TX. They enjoyed 34 years of marriage and their family became complete with their two daughters, RoxAnne and Kimber. After spending some time in Shreveport and Fort Worth, the family made Schertz their home in 1971. Hank spent many years supporting BVYA, Samuel Clemens HS, and SAFES EMS. Most of his free time was spent on the softball fields coaching his girls and he never missed a single game. After his wife’s passing in 1995, Hank met his second love of his life, Bobbie Dilworth in Schertz, TX. Hank and Bobbie loved to go on cruises and they went on several, including trips to the Panama Canal, Alaska, and a trans-Atlantic Cruise. The past few years, Hank has been loved and supported by numerous lifelong dear friends in Schertz and especially his friends Nancy and Bob King and Harriett and Eddie Higgs.
Hank, the Bear, is a man who supported the ones he loved with his entire heart and soul. He was lovingly nicknamed the Bear for his gruff voice, constant scowl, and his strong presence. Those that called him Bear, knew he was truly a teddy bear, with a grizzly exterior and a gentle, soft, kind heart. Hank spent his life serving his family, his God, and his country. His support and love for his family and his friends is his legacy.
Welcoming him with open arms in Heaven are his loving wife, Mary Lou; his parents; his sister, Mary Ann Revels and brother-in-law, Julian Revels; his partner in crime, Bobbie Dilworth; and many dear friends. He is survived by his daughters, RoxAnne King (Rhome, TX) and Kimber Glorioso (Colorado Springs, CO); sons-in-law, Thomas King and Ed Glorioso; grandchildren, Shane, Megan, Elizabeth, and Tyler King and Nicholas and Dylan Glorioso; nephew, Reid Revels and his wife, Dianne; niece, Sandy Sapp and her husband, Gary; great nephews, Tommy and Kevin Hill; and his wonderful friends.
