

CW4 Hollis C. Turner of San Antonio, Texas answered our Lord Jesus' Reveille Call on 30 May 2015 at 0600. CW4 Turner was 89 years old. He served his country well during World War II, Korea and three tours of Vietnam. Hollis began his military career during World War II where he fought in Europe and the Pacific during the liberation of Bataan. After World War II, Hollis returned home to work for the U. S. Postal Service for several years. During that time he met and married Mabel Turner of Tallahassee, FL in October of 1947 and together they started a family. He was called back to duty during the Korean War. After the Korean War he was offered the ability in 1955 to stay on active duty. In 1956 the Army sent Msgt Hollis to Germany where he was in the 58th Transportation Co. While serving as Operations NCO he was tasked to oversee operations for men and equipment in support of movie productions for the movie “To Hell and Back” with Audie Murphy and Van Johnson. Mgst Turner returned to the states in 1961 and was stationed at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. In early 1963 Msgt Turner was sent with others as “Advisor’s” to Vietnam to help train the Vietnamese Army personnel on the maintenance and repair of “Huey” helicopters and the ground maintenance equipment. In late 1963 Mgst Turner returned to be assigned to Ft. Eustis, Virginia where was maintenance NCO for the U.S. Army Transportation School. Mgst Turner worked at the school assisting in the training of Army personnel for the maintenance of all rotary and fixed wing aircraft. In 1964 Msgt Turner was sent to South Korea and stationed in Taegu, South Korea. While in South Korea Msgt Turner was commissioned as Warrant Officer (W-1) and shortly thereafter his father died and he returned to Virginia. In 1968 and again in 1973 W-3 Turner was sent from teaching to a warrior status. In 1973 W-3 Turner returned to maintenance chief position for the Transportation School. CW4 Turner retired on 1 Sept. 1975 to enjoy family life with his wife, son, and his new grandson. In 1976 Hollis returned to the Transportation School as Civilian Chief of Maintenance and Repair Facilities. He remained there until 1991 when he retired fully. Mr. Turner and wife moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1993. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. Turner and Avia D. Turner of Tallahassee, Florida, four brothers, Lenton, Lester, Paul, Ralph, and four sisters, Louise, Gertrude, Corrine, and Inez. He is survived by his wife, Mabel W. Turner of San Antonio, Texas, his son Joseph E. Turner, Sr. & wife Yong S. Turner, Grandson, Joseph E. Turner, Jr. & wife Stephanie Turner of Austin, Texas, Brother, O’Dell Turner & wife Jeannine Turner, of Tallahassee, Florida and sister, Nell Carlile of Tallahassee, FL as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services to be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday, 4 June 2015 from 6:00 thru 8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be at 09:30am on Friday, 5 June 2015 at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery will full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
