September 27, 1941, in Denison, Texas where he worked with his
father on their dairy farm and delivered milk with his Uncle who began
paying Social Security payments for him starting at the age of nine.
Paul, as he preferred to be called, met his wife Andrea when she was
14 and he was 16 at Denison High School. They married soon after
Andrea graduated from school and after a brief time in Denison, Paul
joined the United States Air Force to help give them educational and
travel opportunities they would not have been able to afford otherwise.
He started out in the enlisted ranks and through hard work and
determination, moved up into the officer ranks, retiring as a Captain
after 21 years with a Masters Degree in Systems and Logistics from
the Air Force Institute of Technology. He went on to his second career
at Houston Lighting and Power, retiring from there after 17 years.
After Andrea retired from her nursing career they spent the next
several years traveling, both in the United States and Europe and
taking care of their homes in Tennessee Colony, Texas, then onto
Georgetown, finally settling in San Antonio at The Army Retirement
Community where he served on the Dining Committee, the Movie
Committee and as a Neighborhood Representative. That work ethic
instilled in him from when he was a young boy never left.
Paul is remembered by friends and family as an honest, kind man
who treated everyone he met with dignity and respect. He went out of
his way to help people and was generous with his time and resources,
be it money or his abundance of skills learned over a lifetime of
working.
Paul is proceeded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Helen Martin
and is survived by is loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Andrea;
his children Amber (husband Ed), Jason, Matthew (wife Nathalie); and
his grandchildren Dustin, Cydney, Eli, and Albanie. His family and a
myriad of friends, old and new, already miss him dearly.
In Dog Heaven, the pups who spent time with him in this life are
jumping with wild abandon as Paul is there now with his pockets full of
treats.
A Memorial to celebrate Paul’s long and inspired life will be held at
The Army Retirement Community in the Chapel on Thursday,
December 10 at 2 PM.
Interment will take place with full Military Honors at The Fort Sam
