

Colonel Jackie Moothart of San Antonio, TX passed away on September 13, 2026. Born in Wenatchee. Washington, he was raised on an apple ranch, graduating from high school the month the Korean War began. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was commissioned through the Aviation Cadet Program in 1954. Colonel Moothart was assigned to various fighter and interceptor squadrons. He flew 100 combat missions in F-105 fighters in North Vietnam. His later career consisted of several command and staff assignments, primarily in the Tactical Air Command, and a tour as the senior advisor to the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force. Colonel Moothart earned several decorations. Including the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal with eleven oak leaf clusters, the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
After many years of night school, he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a master’s degree from George Washington University. Other educational accomplishments included Squadron Officers’ School, the Air Command and Staff College, and the National War College. After retirement, he held management positions with Northrup and McDonnell-Douglas aircraft companies on Royal Saudi Air Force Fighter programs. He later did extensive consulting work with various aerospace, operations and maintenance companies.
Jackie was a sports lover, playing football, basketball, and running track in high school. He loved watching NFL, NBA and NHL games, as well as golf and NASCAR. He took up golf after retiring from the Air Force and enjoyed boating and RVing. He and his wife traveled throughout the US and Canada over the years in a variety of RVs.
Jackie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and is survived by his three daughters, Jacquelyn (Michelle) Reaves, Teresa Brown, and Susan (Jeff) Wisenbaker, four grandchildren, Austin, Ryan, Marshall, and Lauren, and two great grandchildren, Amelia and Eric.
Committal Service will be held on September 24, 2026; 2:30pm (Shelter #3) at Fort Sam National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX.
