

James W Devitt Lt. Colonel U.S. Army (retired) passed away on Jan. 10, 2010 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife Helen, his four daughters Sandy Kranz, Lynda (Tony) Angeleri, Karen (Van) Wiles, Nancy (David) Cawthon, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grand and his brother Bill. He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on Feb. 5, 1926 to Joseph Wesley Devitt and Leona Joice. After serving in the Navy in the Pacific in WWII, he married Helen Galusha on June 24, 1950. Upon graduating from St. Lawrence University in 1952 Jim received his commission as second LT. in the U.S. Army, where he served his country for 18 more yrs. including 1 yr. in Vietnam. Col. Devitt retired from the Army and taught English and History in Fulton, N.Y then worked for the army again in public relations in Louisiana and Texas. He finished his career in San Antonio where he was tennis director at Woodlake Country Club for 13 yrs He was active in promoting tennis in the SA area and instrumental in establishing the home owners assoc.for Mission Hills, where he has lived since 1976 A memorial service will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home on Friday,Jan. 15, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
