James Richard Fede, 36 years of age passed away unexpectedly after being shot by an unknown assailant while driving for work on May 5th, 2021. James was born on May 16, 1984 in Ravenna, Ohio. He spent most of his life in Garrettsville, Ohio before moving to San Antonio, Texas to be with the love of his life, his wife Ruby Fede. James was a talented painter, refurbishing houses in the Cleveland area. After moving to Texas, he took a position with Uber Eats to allow him to spend more time with his family and help care for his new step-daughters Makayla, Zoey and Bella. James continued to work during the Coronavirus Pandemic to provide food for families unable to leave their homes.
James’ love of music continued throughout his life which included playing bass guitar in his high school rock band. In addition to his love for music, James had a huge heart for animals, once telling his Grandma that he couldn’t be a veterinarian because he couldn’t bear to put an animal down. He picked his dog Sadie because he was afraid no one else would want her. He also rescued a cat in Ohio after the owner passed away. “Alex” and Sadie were in tow in his move to Texas. Just recently he rescued a few days old kitten and nursed him back to health. The family has decided to name it JR in James’ memory.
James had a sense of humor that made us all laugh, even when times were rough. He always saw the good in others without judgment. The stories we could tell of all the adventures he experienced in his short life would take an entire book. James loved his Ohio family beyond words, but once reconnecting with Ruby, there was no question that relocation to Texas was his future. James met Ruby in 2003 while stationed in San Diego in the Navy. They reconnected after 15 years in 2018, never losing the love they experienced in 2003 and decided to pick up where they left off.
James was preceded in death by his dear grandparents Carl and June Mesaros of North Benton, Ohio, William Fede of Mantua, Ohio and cousin Brian Fede of San Juan Capistrano, California. Also preceding him in death was his best friend Mark Sanders of Nelson, Ohio. The story was told, that they were introduced in third grade as two new students – the teacher said, “you two should be friends” and they were until Mark’s death in 2010.
James is survived by his loving wife of just over a year, Ruby, his step-daughters Makayla, Zoey and Bella, his mother Mary Mesaros-Hannah of Garrettsville, his father Steven Fede of Garrettsville, his Grandmother Eileen Fede, Uncles Carl (Sara) Mesaros, Tom (Brenda) Mesaros, David (Mary) Fede, Aunts Susan (Bob) Eikelberry, Karen Barnett, and Lisa (Joe) Calapa, cousins Angela (Dave) Otto, Thomas Mesaros, Mike (Sheila) Coon, Elizabeth (Greg) Gill, Stacey (Michael) Belknap, Jennifer (Allen) Tyner, Andrew and Julianne Calapa.
