Janice "Neacie" Summerling, nee Nickerson, was born on December 4, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas. From an early age, she displayed a spirit of kindness, determination, joy, and faith—qualities that shaped the life she shared with her family, friends, and community.
Throughout her life, Janice was known for her generous heart and unwavering faith. Whether she was working as a city bus driver, serving others, caring for her family, or helping her neighbors, she approached life with a servant's heart and deep trust in God's guidance.
Faith was a cornerstone of Janice's life. As a devoted member of the body of Christ, she found joy in prayer, worship, volunteering, teaching, singing, and ministerial work. She strongly believed in the words and teachings of the Bible and often shared encouragement and hope with those around her.
Outside of church and work, Janice loved spending time with her family, cooking her famous chili and brisket, gardening, reading scripture, and helping others. Many will remember her for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and her dedicated spirit as a caretaker.
Above all, Janice cherished her family. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Kareen Thompson; her grandchildren, Tqchoice, Triztan, Tay'J, Reyon, and James; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Bernice Nickerson; her sisters, Lucy Kelly-Green, Vinnie Cummings, and Patsy Mitchell; as well as many other relatives and dear friends who were blessed by her love and guidance. She was preceded in death by her son, TaMarsh Thompson.
Though Janice will be deeply missed, we take comfort in the promise of John 14:2–3, where Jesus says, "In my Father's house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you." We trust that Janice has been welcomed home into that prepared place.
Though we say goodbye for now, we rejoice in the hope that through faith in Christ, we will meet again.
