Born in Lafayette, LA, Janet was a proud military wife, parent of two daughters and grandmother of two. The youngest of four children, she was a voracious reader from a young age. She also enjoyed baking and cooking, making jigsaw puzzles, socializing with friends, and dancing to local Louisiana music artists.
Janet met Gerald Latiolais at a New Year’s Eve dance in 1962 and married him two years later, beginning her life as a military wife (Navy first, then Air Force). In this capacity, they started their family and began traveling: Oklahoma, Madrid, Omaha, North Texas, San Antonio, Louisiana, Germany. This does not include the many, many countries and states they visited along the way. Janet loved traveling to the places she had only read about as a child.
While Janet held many office positions over the years, she made her largest impact as an entrepreneur, first with her day care Janet’s Kids, then with Janet’s Gifts. She also worked in advertising sales for a small rural newspaper. She answered the telephone as receptionist for several companies in San Antonio. She even created crafts and sold them at craft fairs. She was, indeed, multi-talented.
When she retired, Janet became an officer in her neighborhood HOA as well as the community Welcome Wagon. She also edited the community newsletter. Janet started a Red Hat Chapter where she was selected Queen. She volunteered to drive elderly citizens who needed assistance until she became a client. She volunteered at her daughter’s middle school library. Later she became a member of the Friends of the Library for the San Antonio Public Library. She started neighborhood groups that host monthly luncheons, Tripoloy and card games. Her passing will leave a hole in our community.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. Latiolais.
She is survived by daughters Lori A. Latiolais, Michelle R. Chank, and grandchildren Chelsea Chank and Aiden Chank, as well as two very sad cats, Gulliver and Meeka.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025 at the Windcrest United Methodist Church located at 8101 Midcrown Dr., San Antonio, TX 78239. Reception to follow.
