Sgt. Maj. Jerrell W. Hudman, Retired, United States Marine Corps, sadly passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at the young age of 73. Jerrell was born in Grandfield, OK to Clarence Wayne, and Mae L. James-Hudman.
Jerrell, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1967, proudly serving during the Vietnam War Campaign from 1968-1969, and honorably served for 30 years in the Marine Corps, retiring in March, 1997. There were many accomplishments during his active duty years, but more important to him was taking care of his Marines.
While home on leave from Vietnam, he met Alice in Sacramento, CA and married, on February 9, 1969 in Reno, NV. One year later they were blessed with their first son, and two years later their second. Jerrell was a patriot, and believed in respecting the American Flag, when driving, if he noticed the flag hanging incorrectly he would stop, and let the establishment know. Two things he took pride in were saying the “The Pledge of Allegiance,” and standing while singing, “The National Anthem.” These are the traits he proudly passed onto his grandchildren.
Jerrell enjoyed, watching old westerns, war movies, or just old movies in general; he enjoyed playing board games, especially with his grandchildren. After having a custom home built, he enjoyed working around his property whether it was tearing down brush or riding on his riding lawnmower. Jerrell was a very proud family man. When he was afforded the opportunity, he was involved with his sons’ school activities. Jerrell was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Jerrell was very much a people person, and was loved by all, especially those who knew him well. He was in his bliss when he was around his seven grandchildren. He now has an eighth grandchild, but never got to spend time with her. We knew he was proud, when he heard she was born. He also has two great-grandchildren, who live in southern California he unfortunately, never got to spend time with them as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mae Hudman; and brothers Derrell Hudman and Rick Hudman. Jerrell is survived by his wife, Alice; his sons, Joseph and Sean; grandchildren Renee, Heather, Tiara, Tyler, Matthew, Bella, Gabby, and Hayley Jane; and great grandchildren Willow, and Shiloh. He is also survived by his sisters Donna, Tami, and Terri.
