A resident of San Antonio since 1975, Jerri passed away at the age of 88. She was born in Poplar Bluff, MO. on November 29, 1937 and was the only child of June and Jimmie Johnson who preceded her in death. She was raised and attended public schools in Dexter, MO. Known as "little but loud," she was a cheerleader throughout high school and also worked for the Dexter Statesman newspaper. She attended the University of Missouri and later worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She married Billy M. Bowen of nearby rural Essex, MO on January 28, 1956 and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Beautiful and spirited, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she provided a "safe haven" for her family during her husband's 22-year Air Force Career where he was often gone for extended periods. She was also very supportive of his 20-year USAA career. Always putting family first, she dedicated herself to their safety and wellbeing.
A long-time, active member of Windcrest United Methodist Church, Jerri served on a variety of committees and was a member of the Jolly Jubilee Jammers, a "kitchen band" often recognized for performances at retirement centers and nursing homes. She was kind, cheerful and very helpful to many members of the church and community.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, and two beloved sons, Scott (with wife Dorothea) and Kevin, and three wonderful grandchildren: Ryan (with wife Jessica), Eric (with wife Brooke), Angela (with husband Ethan). Through Ryan and Jessica, she was blessed with two beautiful great- granddaughters, Aubrey and Kelsey, and great-grandson, Caleb. Eric and Brooke brought further happiness with their two wonderful children, James and Palmer.
Jerri will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her family, who will forever cherish the warmth, kindness, and unwavering support she gave throughout her life.
The family extends thanks to the management and staff of Brookdale Nacogdoches for their compassionate care of Jerri for the past 8 1/2 years.
