

Joan Frances Chandler passed away June 27, 2026, in New Braunfels, TX at age 93. She was born on August 19, 1933, in Lincoln, New Hampshire to John and Velma Chandler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard O. McCord; her son, Stephen R. McCord; her daughter, Susan Reed; her great granddaughter Delanie Denton, and her sister, Mary Packard.
She graduated from Colorado Springs High School in May ‘1951. She worked for Kingsolver, White, Griffis and Johnson CPA’s and for Ent Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado after graduation.
Joan married Richard O. McCord in East Methodist Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado on December 26, 1954. When Dick entered civil service, they began their journeys to Illinois, New Mexico, Virginia and California before moving to San Antonio in December ‘1973.
She worked for the Northeast ISD and the Fort Sam Houston ISD as a school secretary for 28 years.
Joan and Dick joined the Windcrest United Methodist Church in November ‘1991. In retirement she began her volunteer work in the church office, the UMW and the Fig Leaf resale shop. She also was a member of the Jolly Jubilee Jammers, a kitchen band, for 5 years.
She is survived by two children, Sharon Denton and Michael McCord, (wife Jan); five grandchildren, John Michael Denton, Katie Lousch and Brittany Foerster, Megan Jameson and Brock McCord; great grandsons, Dustin Tyler Denton, Jensen James Foerster and great granddaughter, Kinley Raye Denton.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148, US, on July 10, 2026, from 9:45 am to 10:15 am, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location from 10:30 am to 11:15 am.
