

MSGT Joe A Rangel (US Army Retired), born August 28, 1935, passed into the Lord’s arms on August 5, 2010, at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with diabetes and renal disease. He will be missed dearly by his wife of 49 years, Celia Gonzales Rangel (Nena) and his children Nannette, Omar (and daughter-in-law Jenny) and Eloy (and daughter-in-law Mary Margaret) as well as his granddaughters Kayla, Rebecca and Vanessa. He is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Petra Herrera Rangel and his brother Rudy (Sally) Rangel. He is survived by his sister Stella (Conrado) Martinez and brother Henry (Lupe) Rangel. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. He enlisted in the Army as an administrative specialist and served from 1956 to 1989, with service in Germany, Vietnam, Alabama, and Texas. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and numerous others in recognition of his service. Joe was a loving, caring, kind, generous, Christian gentleman who loved his Lord, his wife and his family. He loved and was loved by all, and will be sorely missed. Thank you to all the medical staff and medical specialists that have contributed to his health care, especially his diabetes and renal disease. Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, August 9 at noon. The rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 12:30 P.M. at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 501 North Street Converse, TX 78109. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2 P.M. with full military honors.
