Colonel John H. Whiting, USAF, Retired, stepped through the gates of Heaven on March 13, 2018 at the age 95. Born in Lawrence, MA, John spent his childhood in Rhode Island.
John entered the United States Air Force in 1943, and he received his commission and wings on his 21st birthday. He then served his country with courage and honor for over 32 years. John retired at the age of 52 and spent the rest of his life enjoying the great game of golf as a player, volunteer, SAGA Rules Official and SAMGA member. He entered tournaments and volunteered to assist in USGA, Texas GA and local SAGA events. He became a member of the TGA, a member of the USGA Senior Amateur Committee and Leader of Course/Slope Rating Team. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and was active in the Army Residence Community where he lived.
John is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nita Whiting, six nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 5th, 2018. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Army Residence Community Chapel with a reception in the Skylight Lounge after the services.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations in John's memory be made to the Charity of one's choice.
