Joe Genualdi, age 94, passed away at his home at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, TX on Sunday, September 15, 2019. Joe was born on October 19, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to Andrew and Angeline (DeVita) Genualdi. A fighter from the beginning, Joe came into the world weighing 3 lbs. 3 oz. He graduated from Marengo, Illinois high school, class of 1942 and enlisted in the Army in 1943. Joe’s military career spanned 26 years from the Battle of the Bulge during WWII through both the Korean and Vietnam War. During his military career, Joe graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering. After retiring from the Army as a lieutenant colonel in 1969, Joe went on to work for the City of Albuquerque’s Water Department.
Joe and Adele enjoyed traveling together, gardening, square dancing and spending time with family and friends. At the request of his daughter, Sue, Joe spent about 10 years writing his autobiography which is rich with history, adventures, and advice. Joe will be remembered for a mischievous smile, his love for the game of golf, and his unwillingness to lose at a game of cards.
Joe was married to June Goddard who passed away after giving birth to their son, Mark. Joe later married Adele Super on August 4, 1956 and had three children. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Adele; sons Mark and Rob and daughters Carrie and Sue; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
One of the things I believe is that I continue to live on forever through my children, and my children’s children and so on. May it never stop! -Joe Genualdi
