

June Marie Kerkow, 94, of Universal City, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 10, 2021. Born in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania on June 2, 1927, she was the first born of seven children to the late Michael and Julia (Buckus) Mendick. After graduating high school, June moved to Washington, DC and worked for the Navy Department where she met her future husband, Lawrence W. Kerkow, a Veterinary in the Army Air Corps.
June was a faithful confidant and companion to her beloved husband Dr. Kerkow for 65 years. She was a service volunteer at many of his military assignments around the world, civilian employment and elected offices. As a military spouse and diplomat, she shared and supported his rigorous assignments with professionalism.
June made many wonderful life-long friends that she was so thankful for and considered them to be family. Her joys were her church, her family and friends and wonderful food, sweets and puzzles. She was inspired by her deep Catholic faith and devoted to helping others through giving and prayers. Her family and friends always appreciated her intellect, wisdom and kindness.
She was predeceased by her husband, brothers Robert (Fay) Mendick, Milton Mendick, James Mendick and sisters Evelyn Weidl and Justine Battles. She is survived by her sister Betty Rodgers, Ruth Mendick, Joseph Weidl, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary and Memorial Service are scheduled for Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. Services will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd.,Universal City, TX. A graveside service will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Services will be live streamed for all those who are unable to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boysville, Converse, Texas.
