Karl-Heinz was born on July 5th 1940 in Schoenborn, Germany to father, Karl B. Treutler and mother, Maria J. Treutler (nee Pilz). Karl-Heinz passed away after a short illness on May 25, 2024 at the age of 83.
His surviving siblings are brother, Christian H. Treutler, Col. USAF (Ret) and sister Marianne Trebelhorn, MD (nee Treutler).
Karl’s wife of 54 years, Nora Treutler, preceded him in death in 2021.
Karl-Heinz immigrated with his family from Germany to the US on July 5, 1959. He attended Auburn University and later earned a BA degree. Karl is an Army veteran, having served two plus years at the former Ft Hood and Ft Sam Houston facilities as a medic during the Vietnam era. He was a certified automobile technician/instructor and was employed by Volkswagen of America, Audi and Porsche in San Antonio, Texas and at VW headquarters in Farmington, MI.
After his retirement he performed contract work for Chrysler Corp translating service manuals from English to German at Chrysler minivan factory in Graz, Austria. He then settled down on his homestead that he and his wife Nora built in Garden Ridge, TX, and pursued his lifelong hobbies full time. They consisted of raising purebred racing pigeons that he entered in several races. He was also an avid bee keeper on their 6 acre property, producing much sought after pure honey. Together with Nora they loved gardening and grew most of their vegetable needs. He also kept Koi in a fish pond that he built, next to their swimming pool that Nora enjoyed most of all. During the times that both he and his brother Christian were in San Antonio, they enjoyed spending time together and reminiscing about their happy life as young boys on the farm in Germany where they grew up.
During April 2024 it became evident that Karl-Heinz’s health was failing and he was grateful Christian was by his side every day to make sure he met all his medical appointments and was treated with care and empathy during the five weeks in the hospital and later in hospice care. Karl-Heinz will be sorely missed by his immediate family, many local friends and those in faraway places.
