It is with profound sadness that family announces the death of Kathleen (Kathy) E. McMahan (aka Gauthier). She departed, with a bang, New Year's Eve, 31 December 2025. she passed at 10:10 PM in her daughter Kathleen's arms from complications of kidney failure.
Kathy grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, attended Mona Shores High School and studied at Muskegon Community College. She was the eldest of four siblings. She was a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in (Muskegon, MI), in the 70s. Later, she became a foreman at Production Plated Plastics (Richmond Township, MI). She resided in Battle Creek, MI for many years. In the late 80s, Kathy moved to Texas to be closer to her daughter Kathleen. She retired from the Texas Department of State, Health Services and Radiation as an Administrative Assistant II in January 2012. She always enjoyed the casino trips her DSHS work group would take.
One might say, Kathy was addicted to the news, current events and politics. She was never afraid to tell you her opinion because she believed hers was the right one. She was very friendly (sometimes in the most grumpy of ways), and had a heart of gold. She loved her family most, and was so proud of her children and grandchildren. But after family, it was TV and social media. She enjoyed watching boxing, was sure that they would find treasure any day on Oak Island. She enjoyed Xbox games, but scrolling Instagram Facebook (always forwarding little snippets to her family and friends, letting them know she was thinking of them) and watching TV were her latest pasttime.
Kathy was preceded in death by her firstborn daughter Kristien E. McMahan, grandmother Helen Wagner (Granny), mother Dale Johnson, sister Maureen Upson, nieces Angelica Singleton and Kimmy Upson.
Kathy is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Tom) Sawyer (Cibolo, TX), grandsons Joshua (Kira) (Longmont, CO), Aden (Cibolo, TX), daughter Janet (Mario) Indiviglio (Delray Beach, FL), two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren; daughter Andrea (Derek) Manship (Charlotte, MI) two granddaughters Morgan and Kortney; brother Brian Gauthier (High Point, NC), sister Colleen Singleton (Jim) (Muskegon, MI), and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Cindy Bryant, who made life a bit easier for both Kathy and her daughter the last few years and is never shy about giving a helping hand or a reassuring "I love you". And to Kathy's Bible study ladies who helped her find peace with God-thank you so much for the peace of knowing she rests with Him.
