Kathryn Louise Payne entered into the loving arms of our Lord on April 10, 2022 at the age of 90. She was born in Bellevue, Iowa on January 25, 1932 to Minnie Lewis and Alvin Engnes. She was the oldest of five children.
Kathryn loved art and beautiful things. She was a talented artist and crafts person. She had a keen eye for beauty in everyday objects. She had lovely collections of antique pattern glass, perfume bottles, artisan teddy bears, and other items.
Kathryn was known to set the most beautiful table and won several contests. If you visited her home, she would show you all of her beautiful, perfectly coordinated collection. Besides loving beauty, she had a great sense of humor. Kathryn loved jokes, loved life and sometimes was known to ‘stir pots’. Kathryn was a beautiful lady inside and out. Her smile could brighten up a room. She was a natural mom, easily taking care of children, but also never turning away from a person in need.
Kathryn met Chris Payne while she was living in Missouri and Chris in Universal City. She had placed an ad in a singles magazine and by the grace of God, Chris received the same edition. They ended up connecting and after several conversations on the phone, Chris flew Kathryn to Dallas. Knowing about Kathryn’s love of art, she was received with a bouquet of flowers and a small bluebonnet painting. After more dates and conversations they moved in together and got married.
Kathryn had a wonderful sense of adventure. She and Chris loved driving the country roads looking for art and antiques. Their favorite thing on their adventures was finding a good mom and pop cafe for a cup of coffee and a slice of pie.
In their later years, when they could no longer do the road adventures, they would sit on their front porch, have a happy hour, and reminisce.
She will be reunited in heaven with her parents Minnie and Alvin Engnes; her beloved husband of 40 years, Chris Payne; daughter, Sherry Megrew; son, Robin Megrew; sister, Marilyn Wierschke; and brother, Olin Engnes.
Kathryn will always be remembered by her loving children, Sandy Megrew, Alan Megrew (Jodie), Darren Megrew (Denise), and Laurie Megrew Mau (Dennis); brothers, Alan Engnes and Steve Engnes; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
