Kathy was born in Cotulla, Texas on March 22, 1951 to George and Peggy Hermes and beaming big brother George Allen, who called her his “honey”. She was later blessed with twin brothers and 3 younger sisters. In 1969 she graduated from PSJA High school, where she was an accomplished athlete.
Soon after graduation, she met Harold Luce at a dance hall and the two fell hard for each other: two love birds, always. Throughout their 40 year marriage, they loved to dance, play cards, and spend time with family.
Kathy had many accomplishments and wore many hats in her lifetime –wife, mother, farmer, referee, card shark and friend. She found great success in the Trucking business for some four decades as one of the top brokers in an industry dominated by men. Known for her honesty, Kathy’s drivers were ever loyal to her.
As a mother, she was a mentor, cheerleader and best friend who could always be counted on. She taught that love isn’t something to be meted out sparingly to a select few, but given out in abundance. Her home was a safe place for her daughters and to the many other surrogate sons and daughters they brought into her home over the years. Her unconditional love was a gift given to all.
Kathy was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Harold and by her beloved son-in-law Joshua Hansen.
Kathy is survived by her daughters Sarah Hansen and Georgia Gunesch, son-in-law Moses Gunesch, granddaughter, Maisie Gunesch and grandsons, Morgan and Cameron Hansen; Siblings: George Hermes, Ronnie McBee, Arnie McBee, Debbie Huebotter, Terrie Fritcher, Mary Hermes, Mike and Dianne Taylor and a whole slew of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her tremendously.
