

Captain Leland Henry Bennett, age 83, of Live Oak, Texas, formerly of Bancroft, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. Leland was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Evelyn Bennett on December 15, 1940.
Lee was a Military Officer with 20 years of service. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1971 with a Master’s Degree in Logistics. Lee continued his education by holding licenses in Real Estate, Finance, Securities, Life Insurance, and as a Tax Preparer for more than 40 years.
Lee was a prominent member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City since moving to Texas in 1975. He also was a member of the choir.
Lee’s favorite pastime was watching and betting on “the ponies” at Retama Race Track and in the past, Bandera Downs! He loved the San Antonio Spurs, religiously, and at one time was a pretty good bowler.
Lee is survived by his two daughters, Michel L. Greer and Rebecca M. Bennett; his sisters-in-law, Donna and Joy Dirksen; his grandson, Joshua R. Greer; his two stepsons, William and Mike Gabbard; and his stepdaughter, Jackie.
Lee is preceded in death by his wife, Maureen; his mother, Evelyn Dirksen; his father, Henry Dirksen; his sister, Ruth Leidholt and her husband, Ruben; his brothers, Delbert and Merle Dirkson; his son-in-law, Wallace M Greer Jr.; and his stepson, Sean Gabbard.

A celebration of life for Leland will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Rd, Universal City, TX 78148. Following the celebration of life will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 2:20 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
