He accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 1954, at Zion Fair Baptist Church in Sinton, Texas. Leslie expressed fulfilment of his Christian walk when he received the gift of the Holy Spirit at Livingway Church in September of 1987. Livingway Church was Leslie’s place of worship and ministry as a faithful member for thirty-two years. Leslie participated in several Livingway drama productions, was co-director of the Married Couples with wife, Gloria, and served in the Greeter ministry until becoming a member of the Altar Ministry.
Leslie graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1961. He had a desire to become a fashion designer of men’s clothes, which created for him a platform of style and class which he maintained throughout his life. However, his path took a different course and he decided to enter the work force. His first job was at Frito Lay where he worked for five years. On June 16, 1968, Leslie began his employment at Continental Airlines as a customer service/ramp agent. He remained a loyal employee to the airlines for 35 years until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed retirement for about three years before becoming a greeter for Wal-Mart where he remained for 12 years.
Listening to quartet music (such as the Soul Stirrers, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Williams Brothers, and the Canton Spirituals to name a few), collecting 1/18 Diecast Model cars (over 200), his 1959 Chevy Impala, and 1972 Oldsmobile 442 were his favorite hobbies. Leslie loved to sing, and for a period of time he sang with the gospel group the Spiritual Voices, Amazing Spiritualaires.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, Leslie departed this life for his eternal rest.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Nichols, Sr., brothers, Carl Wayne Nichols and Bruce Anthony Nichols, and son, Jason Carl Nichols.
Leslie leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife and companion for thirty years, six months and eighteen days, Minister, Dr. Gloria J. Nichols, mother, Vermer Marie Nichols, sisters, Alice (Tommy) Crenshaw, Marilyn Joyce Hall, and Janice (Kenneth) Moore, brothers, Herman Nichols, and Willie (Marlene) Nichols, two grandchildren, Isaiah Jason Nichols and Jada Elizabeth Nichols, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
