OBITUARY

Leslie Nichols Jr.

September 16, 1943June 5, 2019

Leslie Nichols, Jr. was born on September 16, 1943, to Leslie Nichols, Sr. and Vermer Marie Nichols in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Nichols family moved to San Antonio in 1957. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 1954, at Zion Fair Baptist Church in Sinton, Texas. Leslie expressed fulfilment of his Christian walk when he received the gift of the Holy Spirit at Livingway Church in September of 1987. Livingway Church was Leslie’s place of worship and ministry as a faithful member for thirty-two years. Leslie participated in several Livingway drama productions, was co-director of the Married Couples with wife, Gloria, and served in the Greeter ministry until becoming a member of the Altar Ministry. Leslie graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1961. He had a desire to become a fashion designer of men’s clothes, which created for him a platform of style and class which he maintained throughout his life. However, his path took a different course and he decided to enter the work force. His first job was at Frito Lay where he worked for five years. On June 16, 1968, Leslie began his employment at Continental Airlines as a customer service/ramp agent. He remained a loyal employee to the airlines for 35 years until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed retirement for about three years before becoming a greeter for Wal-Mart where he remained for 12 years. Listening to quartet music (such as the Soul Stirrers, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Williams Brothers, and the Canton Spirituals to name a few), collecting 1/18 Diecast Model cars (over 200), his 1959 Chevy Impala, and 1972 Oldsmobile 442 were his favorite hobbies. Leslie loved to sing, and for a period of time he sang with the gospel group the Spiritual Voices, Amazing Spiritualaires. On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, Leslie departed this life for his eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Nichols, Sr., brothers, Carl Wayne Nichols and Bruce Anthony Nichols, and son, Jason Carl Nichols. Leslie leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife and companion for thirty years, six months and eighteen days, Minister, Dr. Gloria J. Nichols, mother, Vermer Marie Nichols, sisters, Alice (Tommy) Crenshaw, Marilyn Joyce Hall, and Janice (Kenneth) Moore, brothers, Herman Nichols, and Willie (Marlene) Nichols, two grandchildren, Isaiah Jason Nichols and Jada Elizabeth Nichols, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Our BIG BRO Leslie Nichols Jr.

Whenever Bro Leslie is mentioned, the 1st word that comes to mind is INTEGRITY.

Proverbs 22:1 says: A GOOD NAME IS TO BE MORE DESIRED THAN GREAT WEALTH.

The Bible is clear that a good reputation is of great value and therefore is something that we should all strive to earn and maintain. Our Big Brother represented Jesus Christ well and kept his reputation intact. His private life matched his public persona. There were no hidden agendas, double lives, or dishonest practices. His life was authentic, honorable and upright; we loved him and will miss him every day.

God’s peace in abundance to the family!!!

Bro. Leslie will forever have a place in my heart. His mentoring and exemplary examples of being a godly man and husband were a core of our friendship. He was the same always and was someone whose advice I often sought in prayer and in public. Often the greatest conversations we had were in the doorway of Walmart. I cherish the memories we shared and continue to admire the Nichols. Just as he mentored me, Mama Glo has done the same for my wife. We love you and know you have entered your mansion in peace and well-deserved rest!

He always had a smile, encouraging words and was always dressed for success. I remember how excited he would get when he saw, "Praise in Motion" in the lobby. I have a recording of us ministering too, "The Blood Still Works"and sure enough Pop Nicholas was up praising the Lord. Anyone that knew him will tell you he exemplified the love of Christ. The earth has lost a Mighty General and Heaven has gained an angel. Mama Glo I love you.

Love always,

Tania Balanciere.

Les was a good friend that I enjoyed working with for 15 yrs. at Continental Airlines. He was a fine man that I wish I had known even better and longer. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone except maybe the Dallas Cowboys. We had many football conversations. He will be missed by many I am sure.
