Lulia Carlota Fusilier

Born on May 22, 1935, Lulia Carlota was the fifth of ten children born to Oilin Wong and Win Chi Chow of San Andres Island, Colombia, South America. Known as Lul or Lu to her family and friends, she spent her teenage years on the island before moving to Panama to live with her maternal grandmother, Julia Wong. There she met, fell in love and married an American soldier and decorated WWII veteran from Elton, Louisiana named Roosevelt Fusilier.

Her son, Fred, and oldest daughter, Charmaine, were both born on the island; her younger daughters, Carolyn and Yvonne were born in Panama. After Roosevelt was recalled to active duty to serve in Korea, they moved to the US in the early 1960s and Lulia became an American citizen in 1965---something she was very proud of. When her husband retired from the US Army in 1969 out of Ft Polk, they made a home in Rosepine, Louisiana.

Lulia loved to cook, tend to her large yard, shop for anything on sale, and socialize with her neighbors. Her children and grandchildren will always have the warm memories of her cooking special meals and desserts for them and always welcoming them with a beautiful smile and hug. Outside of the home Lulia worked for a few years as a private companion to several families in the Leesville, Rosepine, and DeRidder areas bringing her joy, laughter, and big heart to those in need.

Lulia is survived by her four children: Fred Fusilier, San Diego CA; Charmaine Hays (Phillip), San Antonio TX; Yvonne Fusilier, Houston TX; Carolyn Fusilier, San Antonio TX; and her three grandchildren: Stephanie Gorgon (Jerome), Detroit MI; Timothy Hays (Sarah), Creech AFB NV; Samantha Barrow, Houston TX.

She also is survived by three brothers and a younger sister: Chester (Delores) of San Andres Isla; Dowell (Heidi) of Beltsville, MD; Ramon (Elizabeth) of Apison, TN; Lina (Justo) of Colombia.

Lulia will be buried at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery in a private family ceremony on January 20, 2017. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home, Universal City, TX. Please sign the guestbook at www.colonialuniversal.com
