
Margaret Leland Huber Petermeier, 93, of Silver Tree, Schertz, Texas, former longtime Melbourne, Iowa area resident, died Thursday, February 16, at Silver Tree Nursing Rehabilitation Center in the loving care of her family.
Born Margaret Leland Huber on March 11, 1918, at Hastings, Minnesota, she was the daughter of George and Pearl Hartneck Huber. As an infant, the family moved to Melbourne, Iowa where she resided and later graduated from Melbourne High School in 1935.
On New Year’s Day of 1937 she was united in marriage to Harry Anton Petermeier in Tama, Iowa. They resided on a farm in Melbourne for over 40 years where they raised their four children. The couple retired in the town of Melbourne in 1978.
Margaret was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Melbourne until she moved to Texas in December 2002 where she later joined Christ the King Lutheran Church. She loved being a homemaker and cooking for her family. She was an active member at St. John’s, loved quilting and Bible studies. She enjoyed reading anything historical and would read the daily paper cover to cover.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Allan Petermeier and wife, Mary, of Universal City, Texas; Norman Petermeier and wife, Stephanie, of Pleasanton, California; daughter-in-law, Barbara Petermeier, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Ardell Spooner-Forrester and husband, Pat, of Aurora, Missouri. She loved being Grandma to her eight grandchildren, Sheri Petermeier Boos and husband, Al; Judy McCarthy; Kristine Petermeier; Julie Petermeier Coching and husband, Neal; Heidi Petermeier Edmiston and husband, Brad; Alex Petermeier and wife, Katy; Tim Spooner; and Scott Spooner and wife, Shannon. 15 great-grandchildren also survive her. Her husband, her parents, and a son, Stanley, preceded her in death.
Margaret will be laid to rest at a later date in Melbourne, Iowa.
