Sylvia was born in Orange Grove, Texas on October 12, 1942. Growing up as a child, Sylvia demonstrated strong qualities of self-confidence, sensitive nature and a disposition that was enjoyable to those around her. As a young girl, Sylvia was imaginative, ingenious, and clever. During her high school years, Sylvia’s love of learning led her to music and she joined her school band. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing and spending time with her many cousins. She graduated from Orange Grove High School in 1960.
Sylvia found comfort in her family and stepped up when they needed her. In the early 1960’s Samuel, her brother, was stationed in San Antonio; and of course Sylvia, her mother, and her uncle moved to be close to Samuel. After moving to the San Antonio area, she never looked back and found comfort in the town and her surroundings.
In 1976, she gave birth to her one and only child, Christian Contreras. Christian was her world, trying to provide and give him everything he wanted and needed. Christian found many interests and Sylvia was there to share with him those interests to include football, music, and WWE.
Sylvia’s quality of being a caring person, who was very accepting of others, translated to being a good mother to her son. Sylvia was also blessed with three grandchildren; Serena, Analise, and Tiago. She saw the importance of teaching and caring for children so much so that she could always find ways to connect with them. The children always loved her and she was completely devoted to them.
Sylvia’s faith was important to her. She was a member of St. Monica's Church where she was an active member of the Guadalupanas. She was compassionate and warm hearted, someone who truly loved and cared for others and demonstrated that in her work with the congregation. Throughout her life, Sylvia tried to be as active in the church as possible.
Sylvia passed away on April 24, 2022 at Silver Tree Nursing Home and Rehabilitation of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her uncle, Aniceto Contreras; her mother, Maria Contreras; her brother, Samuel Contreras; her sister-in-law, Maria Contreras; and her son, Christian Contreras.
