Marian Ahr Hugos (“Bee Bee”), a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, in her home at the Army Residence Community. She was 95 years of age. Marian was born on November 2, 1922 in Butte, Montana. Her beloved parents were Ralph and Maria (Gianaro) Ahr. Marian was raised in San Antonio, Texas, where she married Col. Howard Francis Hugos beginning 73 years of marriage.
Marian enjoyed traveling to many countries with her husband during his 30 year career in the U.S. Air Force. Marian learned the culture of the many places she visited. In addition to many state-side destinations, Marian most enjoyed their stations in Rabat, Morocco, and Paris, France. Marian was an avid Bridge player, and her travel contributed to her love of good food and socializing. She was an exceptional hostess and fabulous cook! While in Paris, Marian began her decades’ long passion of art, learning to paint landscapes, portraits, and then mastering oils, pastels, charcoal, water color, and acrylic mediums.
In 1966, Marian moved to Houston, Texas, where she continued to enjoy her artistic talents by teaching classes and displaying her work in art shows. In Houston Marian also imported many exquisite antiques from Europe and opened her own antique shop named d’Elegance.
Marian moved to Austin in 1981 where she continued her passionate love of art and painting, and was very active with the Art School at Laguna Gloria. Marian also enjoyed Austin opera and theatre. Because of her willingness and desire to help others Marian contributed greatly to her parish, St. Louis Catholic Church, becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and regularly visiting and praying with those in Austin’s Seton Hospital.
In 1998 Marian and her husband moved to the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas. Marian continued volunteering her time to visit those in the Community’s healthcare center.
Marian Ahr Hugos was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Col. Howard F. Hugos. Marian is survived by her daughter, Sharon F. Lewis of Round Rock, Texas; daughter Carolyn M. Mettee of Phoenix, Arizona; and son, Robert J. Hugos of Austin, Texas. Marian is also survived by four grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and by her brother, Robert J. Ahr of San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home beginning at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018, followed by a Vigil and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Marian’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Neumann Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2018, with interment following at 2:00 p.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
