Maricela “Marcie” Perez, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in San Antonio. She was born April 8, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Lucila (Salinas) Hernandez and her sister Martha H. Ruiz (+Julian). Marcie is survived by her loving husband, Roland Perez; her two sons, Billy Joe Mondragon (Angela), Leon Alfonso Mondragon (Brittani); grandchildren Sebastian, Sage, Maximo, Mario, Jullian, Lucas, Janine, and Janelle; siblings Jesus Raul Hernandez (Janie), Myrna Rodriguez (+Rosendo), Orfelinda Hernandez, Blanca Konitzer and John Rodriguez (Becky); and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marcie grew up in Corpus Christi and moved to San Antonio in the 1980’s. She worked for National Life Insurance until retirement. Marcie was full of life and lived every day to the fullest alongside her husband, Roland. They would travel to visit family, go to car shows, hang out with friends, and loved to have you join them at the local restaurants for breakfast on a weekend morning or go hear mariachis for any occasion. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping at estate sales, catching the latest sales at the local mall, hanging out with her favorite friends, and, until their passing spending time with her late sister, Martha, and late cousin, Dora. You could always catch the three of them enjoying lunch at Las Palapas or Olive Garden after a shopping trip to the latest sales at Macy’s, JC Penney, and Dillard’s. Marcie was fortunate to have great friends like Syria and Carol, with whom she loved to sit on the back patio and enjoy evenings full of laughs and good times. She was so excited when her sons would visit as they were the joys of her life. Her grandchildren were her heart and she loved to share pictures of their visits. Marcie was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan and loved watching games on TV and a good ‘ol western movie.
Over the past few years, Marcie was diagnosed with ALS. Even though the illness disabled her ability to get around, she remained strong in her faith and still enjoyed a good laugh and visit. She and Roland loved to spend time together and to her last day was with her husband who cared for her during her illness. Marcie loved music and loved to sing and dance to her favorite mariachi or Tejano songs. Even with her illness, Marcie would dance as best as possible and enjoyed her favorite songs. She loved a good grito and her passion for life will remain with us forever. Thank you to the caregivers who helped Marcie over the past year. We appreciate your kindness and dedication to her well-being and care.
