Marion "Pete" T. Mathenia, born on November 25, 1930 in Trenton, Tennessee, to the late Clarence and Opal Mathenia, passed away at age 87 on November 15, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Pete graduated from Peabody High School. Pete was a retired United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, serving for 30 years, he was also retired from the Judson Independent School District, as a school bus driver. He was a senior member and former deacon at Live Oak First Baptist Church; he was always a faithful servant. He loved to have long conversations about cars.
He was the beloved husband of the late Kay Frances Mathenia; former husband of the late Reva Darlene Mathenia. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Russell and Ray Mathenia; sisters, Rebecca White, Maria Hatchett, and May Fern Graves; and dog, Jamie.
Pete is survived by his daughters, Paula K. McNulty and husband Wayne, F. Lynn Mathenia and husband Bob Aliphat, and Sherry A. Poligala and husband Mike; stepchildren, Tom, John and Angie Coker, Amy Bjerke, and Renee Sweeney; brothers, John Mathenia, Harry Mathenia, and David Mathenia; sisters, Louise Watson, Sarah Bennett, and Carolyn Kyle; and grandchildren, Troy McNulty, Kristy McNulty, Connie McNulty, Jason McNulty, Kimberly Poligala Tate, Jules Coker, Clay Sweeney and numerous other step grandchildren.
Donations in Pete's name to Live Oak First Baptist Church are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family are welcome to attend the funeral service, officiated by Pastor Donald Valenta, on Tuesday, December 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Live Oak First Baptist Church, 11560 Toepperwein Road, Live Oak, Texas, 78233, with a reception following the funeral service. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Colonial Funeral Home is handling arrangements, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City.
