Mary Rose Wheeler was born July 18, 1943 to Leonard and Mary Alice (Moore) Driskell in San Antonio. She attended Brackenridge High School where had many friends like Rosie, Travis and her future husband Duncan, whom she married on 5-16-63. Their friends were family, so they all became aunts and uncles to their children. . Mary worked downtown for Alamo National Bank and Duncan worked for the railroad until 1974 when they moved to Ballinger Texas to run a small service station and store that was rightly named. “Wheeler’s”. It was a simple lil gas station with a store attached to their home. This is where they raised their children, Kathy, Nancy, Jennifer and John. She ran the store and Duncan took care of the station for many years while the kids grew up. She and the girls were active in the Order of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls. Once the kids were grown, she took on the role of caretaker for her parents until their deaths. Then she and Duncan came back to San Antonio where she worked at the Army Residence Center until her retirement in 2013. Whatever Job Mary Rose had she always put her heart into it. She loved her tenants at ARC and had so much fun arranging for parties for them. Her oldest daughter Kathy preceded her in death in 2011. The next year, 2012 her husband Duncan passed away. Through all the years she kept busy with her sewing which she loved doing so much. She made many wedding dresses through the years not only for her children but for many more family and friends She had a wonderful green thumb that she inherited from her mother, keeping such a variety of plants that it was like visiting a botanical garden in her back yard. She has lived in Canyon Lake for the last 8 years and has made many new friends there who were adopted family to her. But in June she suffered a major health issue that has finally allowed her suffering on this world to end. On October 2, 2016 she passed away leaving quite a family legacy. Kathy and Jimmy Smith have gave her 3 grandchildren (Sara, David and Leah) and one great grandchild Landon who is full of energy and hungry to know everything. Nancy and Mike Davis added 2 granddaughters. (Stefanie and Rachel) and Jennifer Keeton has 4 children (Scott, Vicki, Mandy and Asa ) who have added a big new branch to the tree with great grand babies Lucas and Catti-brie. John and Rebecca have done their part by adding two grandchildren (Joshua and Luke.)
That adds up to a lot of love for a mother, granny and great granny, who is now in heaven.
