Melvin Earl Freeman was born on December 9, 1935, in Camden, Texas. He was the third child out of eleven born to the late Audrey and Adell “AD” Freeman. Melvin attended elementary and high school in Chester, Texas where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track.
