April 24, 1935 - January 6, 2024
Our beloved mother, Nana, and friend, Moira Graves, went home on January 6, 2024, after nearly a decade of battling Alzheimer's. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Moira was married for 70 years to her soulmate, Lonnie Erston Graves, whom she met in her hometown of Liverpool, England, while he was stationed in Britain serving in the US Air Force. Moira was the heart of our home and family, raising four children, Michael, Glenn, Moira "Sissy", and Susan, all born in different countries around the world. As much joy as she got from loving and raising her family, Moira was also a woman who understood that she had something to offer in a work environment, working herself up from the typing pool with Civil Service to operating in a management position for Logistics and Procurement for the A-10, Attack 10, aircraft in an international capacity. She retired as a GS-13.
As Lonnie's wife, Moira stood by his side, traveling the world while Lonnie served our country. She was beautiful, warm, kind, intelligent and funny. They were good together. As a mother of four, Moira always had time for her children, supporting each of them in their endeavors, loving each of them for who they were, offering a safe and soft place to fall, and acknowledging their achievements. As a nana to eleven grandchildren, she will always be remembered for her upbeat, often silly, attitude, delicious cooking, wonderful knitting and crocheting, life advice, supportive smile, generous hugs and kisses, and the lovely tunes she would hum as she walked and worked around the house. Her hobbies included tennis, crocheting, knitting, sewing, reading mysteries, puzzles of any sort, and dancing. Line dancing, clogging, and traveling with her lady friends became a real source of joy after retirement.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Moira Vernon; her sister, Barbara Sore; her sons, Mike and Glenn Graves; and her grandson, Grant Graves.
She is survived by her husband, Lonnie E. Graves (recently deceased); daughters, Moira "Sissy" Dobbs and Susan Harrington; brother, Stanley Vernon; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Moira Graves, age 88, of Universal City, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
A visitation for Moira will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Funeral Service to be held Friday, May 3, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148.
