Maya and I were privilaged and honored to have been a part of Ruben's life. The friendship that has been created between our families will forever be cherished. Ruben was a true patriot who was dedicated to God, country, and family. We thank him for unselfish devotion to duty and his wonderful frienship. Ruben you will be truly missed.

Losing someone so dear in death is one of the hardest things to bear. May all of you find strength and comfort at this sad time. Know that God deeply cares for all of you.   Isaiah 57:15

I did not know Ruben, but I have the pleasure of working with Roland and can tell from what may other people have written what caliber of person Ruben was. There are no words for this terrible tragedy. But my heart goes out to Roland and all the family. May his memory be a blessing to all who were touched by him.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  We will all miss seeing Ruben at the soccer fields.  His dedication to his players and teams was unsurpassed.  You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I am blessed to have known such a great person.  He cared about people and was always ready to help.  San Antonio was a wonderful place to be and it was people like Ruben that made it that way. I had the honor of serving with Ruben at Torrejon Air Base, Spain in the early 1990's. I've been living in San Antonio for almost 10 years now and didn't know that my buddy lived right around the corner from me. Wish I could turn back time, even if it was a few months, so we could have had a chance to catch up.

 We only knew him a very short time but are blessed for that. So many have shared their cherished memories of him, We feel that we knew him better.  Ruben must have been an amazing man, husband, father and friend. Peace and love to you, Ruben.

We met in Okinawa, Japan and were blessed to have been greeted always with his warm & friendly smile.  He loved his wife & children and his faith in Christ, gives us the assurance that we will see him again. Worked with Ruben in Panama. Man, he loved to fish! I remember going fishing one day with him and Donilea at one of the lakes. When he suggested sunblock both Donilea and I laughed at his suggestion since we both felt we didn't need it. Well, the next day, boy oh boy, did we regret that decision! Ruben had a good laugh as we were so burnt and peeling. Since then, I have always used sunblock. I always think back on that memory with a smile. Ruben you'll be missed my brother, but not forgotten.

May god keep Rube and continue to bless his family. I will miss talking to him on the phone. Will miss you brother.

I just saw this and my heart sank. Ruben was a great friend and one of the nicest people I've ever known. He was always laughing and did everything he could to make everyone else around him laugh.

My condolonces on the passing of Ruben.  Your husband, father, and son was a part of my life.  I was lucky enough to be at Moron AB, Spain when he was there.  He made the trip a memorable one and regularly spoke of his family.  We were always joking around and it started the day I picked him up at the airport.  I was driving a small rental that had the radio controls on the back of the steering wheel.  I had him and Carlos Sanabria thinking the radio was voice activated even though I was controlling it with my fingers.  Ruben and Carlos were yelled at that radio to turn off/on, change stations, and change the volume for about a month before I couldn't take it anymore and told them.  He will be missed.

Which one of the kids photo shopped a bass over Ruben holding a beer can on a boat?  In all my years of fishing with him I've never seen him reel in a real fish.  Normally we'd catch a few stick fish and some grass fish. The only thing we ever caught was a beer buzz. :)
