

Antonio, Texas, aged 78.
Mr. Bruning was born on November 24, 1936 in Rogers Township, Rogers
City, Michigan, to parents Reuben William and Alice (Rudnick) Bruning.
Upon graduation from Rogers City High School, Neal attended college
for several years before entering the US Army in September, 1957. He
served with distinction until his retirement in August 1981, including
tours of duty in Germany, South Korea, several US installations, and
five tours in the Republic of South Vietnam.
Mr. Bruning was a beloved family man as well as loving father and
grandfather. He was married to Mrs. Kim (Nguyen) Bruning and they
raised four children together. He was raised in the Evangelical
Lutheran Church and preferred the simple things in life, as well as
the power of joy and laughter. His family and friends will always
remember him as a man whose kindness and gentle spirit was apparent to
all who encountered him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dolores Shampine, and
daughter Tuyet B. Huth.
He is survived by his wife Kiem Bruning of Universal City, Texas;
daughter Marylyn and her husband Mark Miller of Atlanta, Georgia; son
Reuben and his wife Jennifer Bruning of San Antonio, Texas; four
grandchildren: Brenan Lauren Bruning, Travis Christian Carter, Amanda
Huth Hunt, and Tyler Elizabeth Carter; and two great-grandchildren:
Elena Tuyet Hunt and Remy Wesley Carter.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 1 at Colonial Funeral Home in
Universal City, Texas. A private Buddhist service officiated by High
Monk Thay Tinh is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., followed by formal viewing
at 12:00 P.M. Military Honors and a Lutheran service officiated by
Pastor Windecker will follow at 1:30 P.M.
A reception will follow at 4:00 P.M. at the home of Reuben and
Jennifer Bruning in San Antonio, Texas. Please contact the family for
