Percy Andrew Spence III was born on December 12, 1951 in Waco, Texas to Fannie Alice Spence and Percy Andrew Spence Jr. Percy was raised in Valley Mills, Texas and was a graduate of Valley Mills High School. He received his Associate degree in Applied Science and Mid-Management at the City Colleges of Chicago. Percy joined the United States Air Force on May 1, 1975 at the age of 24, where he served for 20 years as a Technical Sergeant. He received the following decorations:

After his retirement, Percy dedicated the rest of his life to the service of his fellow American veterans through the Disabled American Veterans. In which he was a member for 25 years. Percy was a Freemason for many years and a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Percy passed at home in the arms of his wife of 50 years, Darlene Spence. He passed surrounded by the same caring love he had enjoyed for those 50 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ursula Manning-Spence; and his sister, Frankie Casiano.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Spence; his son Percy Andrew Spence IV; his sister, Fannie Lowe; grandchildren, Derrick and Dominik Cunningham; and his great grandchild, Jazlynn Cunningham; his nieces, Fran Lowe and Phyllis Poteet; and his two nephews, Anthony Lowe and Harry Andrew Casiano. In addition, Percy is survived by other family members and friends that are too numerous to name.
A visitation for Percy will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM. A committal service will occur Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
