Col. Phillip F. Sears USAF (Ret) of Windcrest TX passed away at age 91 on Wednesday July 3, 2013. He served in the Air force for 36 years, initially as a photographer and glider pilot. He spent the next 27 years as a special agent in the AFOSI. He enjoyed a multi-faceted career including teaching photography, investigative techniques for counter intelligence and counter espionage resulting in his induction into the AFOSI Hall of Fame.
Upon retirement in 1976, Phill joined the Windcrest Fire Department and was a valued member for sixteen years,. serving as Fire Marshall for fourteen of those years. His greatest pleasure was working with children teaching fire prevention and safety, earning the nickname “Fireman Phill” of which he was very proud.
After his wife Jane passed away in 2005 he remained in Windcrest until July 2012 when he moved into the Army Residence Center. Phill was the beloved husband of Jane H. Sears.
He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Wines of Laurel MD and Sherron Hinkel of Durango CO, and granddaughters Lindsay Wines of Baltimore MD and Courtney Kincaid of Kannapolis NC. He is also survived by his niece Marianne Taylor and great niece Debora Taylor of Gloucester MA.
Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston at 9:30am Tuesday July 9, followed immediately by services at Windcrest Methodist Church at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
