Ray was born in Cameron, WV to Dexter and Beatrice McDowell on October 7, 1943. Ray left West Virginia at a very young age to join the service. He served on the United States Air Force for 22 years. He continued to serve our country as a private contractor for the military for 20 plus years on Randolf Air Force Base.
Ray was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed his time hunting, fishing, or camping. He was strict but fair family man. He will be truly missed by his friends and family, as he was the cornerstone for everyone he knew.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Raye McDowell and Chales Ray Carney; parents, Dexter and Beatrice McDowell; siblings, Randy Walter McDowell, James McDowell, and Doris Piles.
His legacy will be carried on by his children, Donald Lee McDowell and Melvin Douglas Carney, and grandchildren, Marlee Carney, Dalton Carney, and Dillon Carney.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the American Legion in Universal City.
