

Raymond A. Brown, Sr. beloved father, grand-father, and great grand-father, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 in San Antonio, Tx. He was in loving hospice care for over a year. He is now at peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Suvivors: son, Raymond A. Brown, Jr. (Boomer) and wife Jeanette, daughter, Kathleen C. Pye (Sissy), grand-children: Vicki Opp, Melanie Rochelle, and Kyle Rochelle, great grand-children: Shelby (Samo) Opp, Alexis Tolbert, Payden Tolbert, Hayli Verrips, Haydin and Huntir Henderson (twins), and Brennon Tolbert, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Sophia Brown, his brother, Henry S. Brown Sr. (Hank), his son, Gregory Brown, and his grand-daughter, Toni Marie Verrips. Raymond A. (Grannie) Brown Sr. was born on May 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pa. After attending high school and marrying in 1942, he joined the Army and served in WWII (Battle of Saipan 1944 and was discharged after receiving a purple heart for his service and valor). He had several professions, one being very proficient as a butcher, but decided to venture with his family and followed his brother, Hank Jr. to San Antonio, Tx. That was the beginning of his career as a plumber and pipefitter with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, (Local 142 union member affiliation in San Antonio, Tx). In 2014, Ray received his Sixty-Five Year Membership Certificate, one that he cherished and was very proud of obtaining. He loved attending the monthly retirement luncheons, loved to cook and serve his favorite spaghetti recipe. His interests were country and western dancing in and around the dancehalls in Texas for many years. He was infamous for many awesome birthdays parties, not only his own, but his children’s and grand –children’s. He will always be remembered for being a sharp dressed man (the stetson hats and boots a must), his funny christmas sweaters and hats, and always dancing with his grand-children at many family events. He was a member of Highland Park Lutheran Church and in later years attended St. Johns Lutheran Church in Boerne. He loved the Lord and enjoyed singing the Lutheran hymns. A funeral service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home located at 625 Kitty Hawk Rd., in Universal City, Tx. on Friday, April 22, 2016. Visitation will be 9am-11am, Family Reflection 11am-12noon, Pastor John will be officiating with the funeral service til 12:30pm. The burial procession will follow with interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach, San Antonio, Tx., starting at 1:30pm with full military honors.
