Rebecca June Stewart

Rebecca June Stewart, affectionately known as “Becky” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on November 28, 1937, in Franklin, Texas, to John Bud Martin and Jimmie (Stroud) Martin.

Becky grew up in Hearne, Texas, where she graduated from Hearne High School. There, she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Gary Allan Stewart. The two were married on July 7, 1956, and shared 66 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, adventure, friendship, and countless cherished memories. Together, they raised their two daughters, Connie and Sandra.

During Gary’s 20-year military career, Becky embraced the life of a military family. Their journey took them between Texas and Alaska, including three tours of duty in Alaska. Through each move and every new chapter, Becky made lasting friendships and created a warm and welcoming home wherever they lived.

Becky began her Civil Service career in July 1960 as a clerk typist while the family was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska at Eielson AFB. After transferring to Texas in August 1962, they lived for a few years in Arlington and Fort Worth before moving to Randolph AFB in 1965. In the spring of 1967, they returned to Alaska, where Becky worked briefly with the Federal Post Office at Eielson AFB before the family transferred back to Texas in 1969.

Becky continued her Civil Service career with the U.S. Air Force at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Beginning as a clerk typist, she quickly advanced to the position of Secretary. In the summer of 1972, the family returned to Alaska, this time to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, where Becky worked in Family Housing from 1972 to 1976.

Following their return to San Antonio in 1976 and Gary’s retirement from the military, Becky and Gary purchased their first home. Becky then began working in Civil Engineering under SARPMA (San Antonio Real Property Maintenance Agency) as an Assistant Technician.

Her dedication, talent, and commitment to her work were recognized throughout her career. In May 1980, she received the Female of the Year – Milestone Award from the Randolph Chapter of Federally Employed Women, Inc. In January 1981, she became the Federal Women’s Representative for the Randolph Field Engineering Branch.

In July 1981, Becky was promoted to Facility Maintenance Controller at Randolph AFB. She was one of four controllers to receive the very first Certificate of Outstanding Achievement awarded in this career field in the history of the Air Force. She went on to earn numerous honors, including the Department of the Air Force High Quality Performance Award in 1985, 1986, and 1987.

After a distinguished career of nearly three decades in Civil Service, Becky retired in April 1988 as a Facility Management Specialist.

While Becky was accomplished in her career, those who knew her best will remember her most for the life she shared with the people she loved. Throughout the many moves and chapters of her life, she formed and maintained lifelong friendships. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors with her husband, and together they shared many adventures.

Becky also loved playing cards, with Canasta being her favorite. She and Gary—affectionately known to many as “Bubba”—opened their home to friends for many memorable Canasta parties, filled with laughter, conversation, and good times.

Becky and Bubba also loved visiting Jim’s Coffee House, where they would spend leisurely hours with friends, swapping stories and, of course, talking about their grandchildren. These simple moments of fellowship were among the joys of her life.

Faith was another important part of Becky’s life. She and Bubba were members of Live Oak First Baptist Church and attended regularly until they were no longer physically able to do so. Even then, her faith remained a quiet and enduring part of who she was.

Becky leaves behind a beautiful family and a legacy of love, strength, perseverance, friendship, and devotion.

She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Sue Martin and Connie Laverne Miller; her daughters, Connie Sue Wagner (Foy Wagner) and Sandra Lea Neal (Darrell Neal); her grandchildren, Richard Allan Lovelady, Austin Lee Neal, Erin Lynn Neal, Amelia Wagner Babbs (Daniel Babbs), and Jamee Wagner Yule (Justin Yule); and her great-grandchildren, Cameron Fulton Babb, Lillian Audrey Yule, Braeden Lee Babb, and Landon Forest Yule. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Allan Stewart; her parents, John Bud Martin and Jimmie (Stroud) Martin Richardson; and her brother, James Martin.

Visitation with funeral service honoring Becky’s life will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. Burial service will follow at 2:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Committal Shelter #1, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.

The family is deeply grateful to all who have offered their love, prayers, friendship, and support during this time. Becky will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was one of love, family, service, friendship, and faith—and the memories she leaves behind will remain a treasured part of those who loved her.
