Richard Joseph Curasi was born on February 5th, 1960, in Manhattan, New York. He was brought home one month later in a big snow storm, and not just any snow--it just happened to be the worst snowstorm of that year. In spite of being premature, he, his mother and father made it home safely. This is where his story begins: Richard spent his childhood and teenage years in Wantagh, Long Island. He excelled in his schooling--except for Algebra 1--and by the age of 19, he had a baby on the way. That was in 1979 and Richard decided to join the US Army where was determined to be an orthotist prosthetist and, unbeknownst to him, he would later graduate with several degrees. Before his 20th birtday, he had a new baby boy and lost his mother, on the same night, at the same hospital. While he was in the service, he had another baby, this time a girl, and he would, unfortunately, end up leaving the Army after 13 years. Richard spent the rest of his life doing jobs that made him happy and meeting people that some of us would only meet in our dreams. During this time, he met his future wife and lifelong best friend Sandra Curasi, and had another baby girl. However, the Army wasn't finished with Richard. In 2012, he would go back and would be a great part of the wounded warrior project at Brook Army Medical Center and pick up where he left off nearly 30 years before. Throughout his life, he met many people and many of who were very near and dear to him. Richard's life was nothing less than extraordinary and truly a testament to the saying “when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.” Because no matter what snow storms came his way, Richard Joseph Curasi always prevailed.
He was pre-deceased by both his parents Josephine and Vincent Curasi. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, his youngest daughter, Giana, his daughter Rachelle, his son Jonathan, his brothers Vincent and Dennis. And countless other family members and friends
A memorial service for Richard will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brooke Army Medical Center, 3551 Roger Brooke Dr, Fort Sam Houston, TX 78234.
