Richard O. "Dick" McCord

Richard Owen “Dick” McCord age 79 passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. Dick was born in Bloomington, Indiana on October 26, 1932. He was the son of Thelma and Max McCord. He graduated from University High School in Bloomington in 1950 and attended Indiana University. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged in March, 1955. Dick married Joan Chandler on December 26, 1954 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He became a Civil Service Employee and they moved to bases in Illinois, New Mexico, California, and Virginia before coming to San Antonio in 1973 and retiring here in 1990. After retirement, Dick worked for 19 years at H&R Block preparing tax returns. Dick and Joan have been members of Windcrest United Methodist Church for 11 years and Dick has regularly ushered at the 9:30 service. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan; children, Sharon Denton and husband John, Stephen McCord, Susan Reed, and Michael McCord and wife Jan; grandchildren, John Michael Denton, Katie and Brittany Stevens, Megan and Brock McCord; great grandson, Dustin Denton. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. and funeral services will begin at 12:30 P.M. at Windcrest United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Windcrest United Methodist Church, 8101 Midcrown Drive, Windcrest, Texas 78239.
