

Robert made his home in San Antonio, Texas, where he built a life rooted in quiet strength, devotion, and service. Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army for 27 years, rising to the distinguished rank of Sergeant Major. His military career reflected not only his dedication to duty, but also his deep commitment to those he led and served alongside. As a combat veteran of Vietnam, his courage and sacrifice were recognized with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Valor.
Beyond his service to his country, Robert was deeply devoted to his faith and community. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, 4th Degree, and Deputy District. He was also a respected local businessman for over 30 years, known for his integrity, hard work, and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Okhui Gentner, whose partnership and care were at the heart of his life.
Family and friends are invited to gather at St. Monica Catholic Church, 501 North St, Converse, TX 78109 in remembrance on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 3:30 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial at 4:30 p.m.
A Committal Service with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery is pending. Service details will be shared as they become available.
Sergeant Major Gentner’s life was one of honor, humility, and steadfast love—qualities that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
