It is with great sadness that the family of Rose Marie Dante announces her passing on Thursday June 21, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Rose will be lovingly remembered by her three sons; Lanny, John and Paul, John’s wife Karen and Paul’s wife Marilyn. Rose will also be fondly remembered by her four granddaughters; Daniella and her husband Ramon, Angela and her husband John, Jennie and her husband Matthew, and Elizabeth, by her five great-granddaughters; Sicilia, Sienna, Mia, Claire and Allie, and her great-great granddaughter Ella.
Rose was born and raised in Monterrey, California where she met her husband Joseph Dante whom she married in November, 1948 in Fort Ord, California. She served as a military wife for over 20 years, living in France, Germany, and Africa, as well as various states in the U.S. Once settled in Texas, she started Papa Dante’s Restaurant along with Joe and her son Lanny, with her son John and his wife Karen joining them in 1986. Rose continued to work diligently at the restaurant for the duration of her career, welcoming her many grandchildren along the way.
Rose will be long remembered for founding Papa Dante’s Italian Restaurant and being matriarch of the Dante family. We will always remember her faith in God, love and protection she had for family and her wooden spoon (to keep her children in line).
A visitation in memory of Rose will be held on Tuesday, July 10 2018 from 9-11 am at Colonial Funeral Home at 625 Kitty Hawk, followed by a graveside service at Fort Sam from 1-1:30 p.m.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Rose to St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
