

Ruben graduated from MacArthur High School and spent much of his life serving his community and family. He grew up helping his parents operate Castro’s Filling Station & General Store, later transforming it into “Ruben’s Place,” known as the Home of the World’s Best Enchiladas. He loved gathering family and friends with good food, music, billiards, and sports.
A devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ruben served for many years as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister and was active in the Guadalupana Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Ruben enjoyed playing pool, collecting cue sticks, dancing to Conjunto and Tejano music, and cheering for the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. He was known for his generous heart, always helping others and praying for those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria Castro; brothers Agapito Castro and Alfredo Castro; and sisters Beatrice Vasquez, Amelia Weems, Irene Villela, Eloisa Dela Cruz, and Velia Campos.
Ruben is survived by his wife of 41 years, Peggy O’Neil Castro; his children Sandra Castro Ortega (Jerry), Kenny Trest (Anna), Monica Garcia, and Ruben Castro (Cristal Benitez); his sister Eluteria Rosas; grandchildren Kenny Wayne Trest, Kenny Dale Trest, and Joseph Garcia; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ruben Castro, Sam Castro, Joseph Garcia, Mark McCreven, Jerry Ortega, and Kenny Dale Trest.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 16075 N. Evans Rd., Selma, TX 78154, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery #1 will immediately follow the Mass.
