Sally Ann Marrs

Sally Ann was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on the 3rd of July 1947 to Walter Fugate and Mary Robinson. Her early years were spent in Virginia before her father moved the family to Birmingham, Alabama. She traveled with family to Dallas in her early life and graduated from high school in 1965. After graduating, she went to Trinity University in San Antonio where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts and later a master's degree. She taught in elementary school for several years before marrying John Marrs in 1973. After marriage, she and her husband moved to Corpus Christi while John completed his B.S. degree. After one year in Corpus, they moved to Austin, Texas so she could obtain a second master's degree from the University of Texas. After two years in Austin, she and John moved back to San Antonio where she worked in Alamo Heights ISD. After that she became a principal in East Central ISD. After leaving East Central, she began her ambitious goal of earning a Doctorate Degree, obtaining it in 1998. Before retiring in 2008, she worked as the Director of Special Education and Assistant Superintendent in Floresville ISD.

With retirement came a new adventure into the art world. Sally enrolled in jewelry making, pottery, and watercolor painting classes at Southwest Craft Center and devoted herself to painting the world around her.

Sally was a beautiful person inside and out and spent most of her life helping others succeed. She loved nature, especially her hummingbirds and butterflies. She enjoyed horticulture and had numerous orchids and a wildflower garden. Shortly before her illness, she became a Master Gardener of Wilson County.

Sally was preceded in death by her sister, Jane, father Walter and mother Mary.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John, brother-in-law Wayne Marrs, sister-in-law Kathy Bass, and twelve nephews and nieces

A celebration of Sally's life will be held July 17 at Colonial Funeral Home at 625 Kitty Hawk Rd in Universal City, Texas at 11:30 am.
