Santos Reyna, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, wisdom, and deep devotion to those he loved most. A man of humble beginnings and unwavering principles, Santos lived a life guided by the belief that doing what’s right and being a good person are the truest measures of success.
Santos proudly served in the United States Army, where he demonstrated the same courage, duty, and discipline that would later define the rest of his life. He carried his commitment to service into every chapter that followed — as a teacher, mentor, community leader, and patriarch.
Born with a servant’s heart and a teacher’s soul, Santos spent much of his life nurturing others—first as an educator, then as a mentor, and always as a father. He believed in the power of education as the key to opportunity, and he instilled this value in his children. One of his greatest accomplishments was seeing all eight of his children earn college degrees—an enduring testament to his guidance, encouragement, and relentless belief in their potential.
Santos was a man of many talents and honors. As a young man, he was named All-District in football, showcasing not only athletic skill but also discipline and teamwork. Later in life, he was recognized as Jaycee’s Man of the Year, a reflection of his deep commitment to community service and leadership.
Above all, Santos Reyna valued family. He often reminded those closest to him, “When it comes to the nitty gritty, it’s the family.” That sentiment guided every decision, every sacrifice, and every celebration. His home was one of warmth, laughter, guidance, and unconditional love—a place where generations gathered and where stories, meals, and wisdom were freely shared.
Santos was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elisa Cristina (Garza) Reyna, with whom he shared an undeniable and enduring love. Their partnership was the foundation of the family they built together, and her memory remained at the center of his heart. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Petra (Guerra) Reyna, and siblings Lupe Martinez, David Reyna, and Jose Angel Reyna.
He is survived by his eight loving children and their spouses: Victor and Dana Reyna, Evelina Reyna, Melinda and Douglas Slick, Lucia and Gary West, Elisa Cristina and David Cantu, Santos Reyna II and Christina Reyna, Rebeca and Alberto Munoz, and Marcela and Jose Cortez.
Santos was a proud grandfather to: Gus Reyna (and wife Madison), Deanna Reyna (and husband Robert), Nathaniel West, Joshua West, Ava Cantu, Elisa Cantu, Carlo Cantu, Joaquin Reyna, Diego Reyna, Isabel Munoz, Sofia Munoz, Gabriela Munoz, Mia Cortez, and Maddox Cortez.
He was blessed with great-grandchildren: Theo Reyna, Asher Reyna, Jean Golembeski, Calvin Golembeski, and Robert Golembeski Jr.
He is also survived by his sisters Zoila Garcia (and husband Francisco) and Emma Villalon (and husband Ben); and by in-laws Celina Garza and John Anthony Garza, along with numerous extended family and friends who were touched by his steady presence and kind spirit.
Santos Reyna will be remembered not only for what he accomplished but for how he lived—with honesty, humility, and love. His impact will be felt for generations to come.
