February 20, 1960 – January 21, 2017
Our beloved Stephen Rene Hernandez of Universal City was suddenly and unexpectedly called home to
be with his Lord and Savior, at the age of 56, on January 21, 2017. His family’s hearts are broken. Steve
was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and brother to countless children
of God.
Steve was born on February 20, 1960 in Ipswich, England to Ruben and Betty Hernandez. He is survived
by his loving wife of 31 years, Belinda, and their three beautiful daughters: Ashley and her fiancé,
Kamrun Foster; DeAnna and Jason Nave; and Gabby. He also leaves behind his parents, Ruben and Betty
Hernandez as well as two sisters, Cindy Zammiello and Kathi Dishong. Their husbands, David Zammiello
and John Dishong were lifelong childhood friends of Steve. He also leaves behind his brothers-in law,
John Rodarte and Eddie Rodarte and wife Cheryl. Steve will be immeasurably missed by his nieces and
nephews: Alan, Tiffany, David, and Amanda Rodarte, Joey and Lisa Zammiello, Shelby and Alex Dishong,
Matthew and Christopher Bueno, and John C. Rodarte. There are also numerous extended family
members and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his in laws: Juan “Pop” and Clementina Rodarte, his brother in law, Jerry Rodarte,
and his niece Danielle Rene Zammiello.
Steve was a graduate of Samuel Clemens High school, class of 1978, and graduated from UTSA in 1986
with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Throughout his professional career, Steve worked in
various industries focusing in sales, marketing, and business development, always keeping to the highest
standards. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where he served faithfully in
numerous ministry needs and positions.
Steve was unquestionably a joyful and compassionate man who absorbed himself with many interests; cycling
being high on the list. He was his daughters’ biggest fan, being ever present, and took pride in everything they
did in their lives. Steve was an enthusiast and crazy supporter of his favorite sport teams: the SA Spurs, Dallas
Cowboys, and Steele Knights. He would also debate about many subjects. At the end of a long day Steve would
unwind by watching his collection of old movies and reading. Steve focused on the important aspects of life and
what made him happy.
He was the light of his family’s lives and we will never forget Steve’s oft-biting humor followed by his beautiful smile
and enormous dimples. We know Steve is residing in his eternal home and fulfilling his lifelong dreams of being a
professional baseball player and leader of a rock and roll band.
Stephen Rene Hernandez was Love.
