

Thomas Richard “Tom” Thygerson, 75, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025. Tom was born on February 3, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, to William Robert and Dorothy Estelle Thygerson. The youngest of three children, Tom, grew up with a strong sense of family and determination that guided him throughout his life.
He graduated from Seaholm High School and later attended Central Michigan University for several years. Shortly after, Tom began his professional journey with Rainbow Vacuums, where his dedication and leadership quickly earned him the role of district manager in Georgia. It was there that he met the love of his life, Cynthia (Cyndy) Thygerson. They married on August 30, 1981, and together built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Tom and Cyndy raised two children: Tracy Renee, born in Austell, Georgia, and Travis Richard, born in Tacoma, Washington. A hardworking man, Tom proudly owned a Rainbow Vacuums in Washington before joining Cain’s Coffee, where he worked for over 16 years. He later retired after 22 years with Conn’s in San Antonio.
Beyond his professional life, Tom was known for his big heart, quick wit, and passion for life. He was an avid poker player and a member of several clubs, including Koala T, Contenders, WPT, and Bar Poker Open. A skilled player with a competitive streak, he won numerous tournaments over the years—including one in Las Vegas, where he took first place in the Bar Poker Open. Around the table, He was known as “Moneybags Tom” and his favorite hand was Queen-Nine suited.
Tom also had a love for collecting—be it coins, sports cards, or Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards. He enjoyed cooking for friends and family, especially his famous Philly cheesesteaks and classic chicken noodle soup. Known for his warmth, humor, and integrity, Tom was a man who left a lasting mark on everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the many hearts he touched.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Thygerson; his sister, Susan Aktary; and his daughter, Tracie Thygerson Mitchell.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Thygerson; his son, Travis Thygerson, and his wife, Cindy; his brother, Bill Thygerson, and his wife, Lucille; his son-in-law, Jeremy Mitchell; grandchildren, Tavyn Gonzales, Taven Rodriguez, and Braylon Thygerson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and his beloved dogs, Buddy and Scooby.
A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Colonial Funeral Home; 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, Texas. Visitation will take place from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m., with services beginning at 5:30p.m. Following the Celebration of Life, a Reception will take place at the same venue from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
