Timothy John McWright Jr.

Timothy John McWright, Jr., 81, of Houston, entered the portals of heaven early on the morning of Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Tim was born on September 11, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to Timothy John McWright, Sr. and Elmira Belle McWright-Johnson. He lived a life marked by unwavering faith, devotion to God and family, and faithful service to his country.

After graduating from Kashmere Gardens High School in Houston, Tim enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country for 30 years, retiring after a distinguished career. A Vietnam veteran, Tim received numerous medals and commendations, including the prestigious Legion of Merit.

Tim was one of three children. His brother, Raymond Leslie McWright, Sr., preceded him in death. His sister, the Reverend Brenda Elaine Walker, serves as Senior Assistant Pastor of New Covenant Church in Humble, Texas.

In 1967, Tim married Renate Pattis, a native of Innsbruck, Austria. Five children were born to their union: Daniela Ines McWright, who preceded him in death in 1972; Timothy John McWright III; Nicolette Elaine Shade; Mary Elisabeth Potts; and Samuel Gerhard McWright.

Tim and Renate were blessed with eight grandchildren: Victoria Justine Posadas, Saryah Daniela McWright-Ball, Jordan Elisabeth Shade, Bryson Torrey Potts, Kennedy Grace McWright, Braxton Jayson Potts, Stefen Amar McWright, and Sebastian Asher McWright. Their family was further blessed with three great-grandsons: Ryland, Raiden, and Elijah.

In 1983, Tim answered God’s call to ministry, sharing the Gospel through both the spoken word and music. He graduated from International Bible Seminary in Plymouth, Florida, and was ordained as a minister at Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ. In 2016, he attended Eagles International Training Institute and Bible College and was appointed to the office of Apostle.

Tim found great joy in playing his saxophone, preaching, and serving his church and community. He made many ministry trips to foreign countries to preach and play music wherever God opened doors. He genuinely loved people and possessed a special gift for teaching and mentorship. Following his retirement from the military, he continued to serve others by teaching music in several school districts. Under his dedicated guidance, many of his students earned first- and second-chair honors in University Interscholastic League competitions.

Those who knew Tim will remember him as a kind, gentle, and loving soul whose life profoundly influenced others. His infectious smile, generous heart, and unmistakable warmth brought joy and encouragement wherever he went.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Elmira McWright; his brother, Raymond Leslie McWright, Sr.; his beloved eldest daughter, Daniela Ines McWright; and a host of cousins and other loved ones.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Renate; his sister, Pastor Brenda Elaine Walker; his four surviving children; eight grandchildren; three great-grandsons; Three sister in laws; Astrid Aichner; Gudrun Freisinger; Isolde Hoefinger and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members, friends, students, fellow service members, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Visitation and a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026; Visitation will take place from 3-5PM, Funeral Service will immediately follow at 5PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, Texas 78148.

Refreshments will be graciously provided by Cornerstone Church and served at the Funeral Home from 6-7PM.

Committal Service with full Military Honors, will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026; 1:45-2:05PM (Shelter #5) at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.

Though deeply missed, Tim will remain forever in the hearts of all who loved him. We take comfort in knowing that he is safely home in the arms of his Savior. May his memory always be a blessing.
