

Lt Col Tommy Stephen Armstrong, DVM, of San Antonio, Texas passed away at his home on July 1st, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born October 4th, 1935 in Corona, New Mexico to Frank Harvey Armstrong and Georgia Ann Childress.
Dr. Armstrong had a career as an Army veterinary officer which included teaching at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and running medical laboratories for the 5th Army in St. Louis, Missouri,. He finished his time on active duty heading extensive health care studies for the military at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio.
He received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University, a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School.
He possessed a caring and resourceful nature that led him to repair things rather than send them to a landfill. His hobbies included wood carving, guitar, and mentally challenging puzzles of many kinds. He had a lifelong love of learning and problem solving across a wide variety of subjects. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.
He is survived by his wife, Marylyn, son Tommy and many other beloved family and friends.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 9:45am Friday, July 21, 2023 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, TX 78209.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to the American Heart Association.
