She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Colonel David M. Withers Ret.
She is survived by her son, Dale Lee Withers and wife Brenda; daughter Susan Withers Canty; grandchildren, Shawn A. Withers and wife Jette B., Michelle S. Withers Gawlik and Husband David W., Blaine H Canty, Jason Growcock, Jenny Growcock, and Jessie Vaculin; great-grandchildren, Shelby Anderson, Sierra Withers, Clara Withers, Rachel Gawlik, Hannah Gawlik, Magen Gawlik.
Velora will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and granny. Prior to marrying her sweetheart, Velora earned a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Florida State University. She taught Home Ec. and Science in her twenties and was an active member of numerous clubs and organizations over the years to include: Life member of Eastern Star Chapter 254, American Home Economics Association, San Antonio Conservation Society, Windcrest Women's Club, Founder of Windcrest Gourmet 1, San Antonio Women’s Club and the Officers Wives Club.
Velora was known for her cooking/baking, often making lavish meals for family and friends. She loved traveling throughout the State of Texas while working for GE, teaching the general public how to cook meals using the "new" appliance, the Microwave. When she wasn't cooking or teaching garnishing classes, she most enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Visitation will begin Monday, March 21, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. with a funeral to follow at 12:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Private interment will be held at Fort Sam on a later date.
