Verdie E. Cook
April 21, 1930 – July 11, 2021
Verdie E. Cook, age 91, of Universal City, passed away July 11, 2021. Born on April 21, 1930 in Neveda, Texas, he was the son of Verdie Bryan and Iva Ethel (Estes) Cook. His father, who passed before his birth, was an Oddfellow. Verdie and his brothers and sister were raised in the IOOF Widows and Orphans Home in Corsicana, Texas.
After graduating from high school in 1948, Verdie joined the United States Air Force and served his country with honor until his retirement in 1976. During his time in the Air Force he met and married the love of his life, Mary Nell Bellflower Cook. They were married for 68 years. Following his retirement from the military, he served as the Assistant Director of Graphic Services for the University of Texas San Antonio.
Verdie was a wonderful and loving father, a good friend, a very kind and generous man, and he will be remembered for his fun sense of humor. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan through the good and the bad. In his free time he was an avid golfer, and loved reading. He was a longtime member and proud historian of the IOOF Ex-Students Association of Texas. He always considered his fellow ex-students as members of his family.
Verdie was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Nell Bellflower Cook. She passed away on December 14, 2019. He is survived by a son, David Cook of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Barbara Cook of Universal City; and a granddaughter, Nelly Cook of Phoenix, Arizona.
There are no services planned for Verdie. In accordance with his wishes, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Universal City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Verdie’s memory to the Bell Tower Fund of the IOOF Ex-Students Association of Texas C/O June Ebert, 4020 Clarke Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.

Barbara, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. My deepest condolences to you and the family. I pray that all the great memories of your dad give you comfort. God has gained another Angel to fly high along side your mom. 🙏❤️
